Quilted quilts have become big industry with large companies who can afford 20 quilting frames with automated programmable long arm sewing machines and a hundred employees to run those 24 hours a day. They’re putting out over a hundred quilts in various sizes with other departments making slip covers and shams to match so they can be packaged at the low price of $80.00 a pop. Incredible prices for factory built, assembly line quilts that your neighbor has and so does his neighbor. There’s nothing personal about them, but they look good and who cares if the whole neighborhood has the same quilt. I mean, all their houses look the same anyway, right?
So, if you’re not one of those type people and you’d like to have your own personalized custom homemade one of a kind quilt made especially for you with your design preference and your colors, then Quilts by Lady Zoe is a great place to start. Zoe is a mother of five who raised the first four girls nearly by herself. She was the one that made her girls designer clothes with no label, but no one at school noticed, yet all their friends wanted thing fixed by Zoe if they had a rip. She also made bedspreads and quilts for close family and her closed extended family members. Word got out and over the years she made a little extra cash on the side. We still have three little one in the house, ages 4, 5 and 10 and I’m sure Zoe will be making things for them as they get older, but actually, since we married over ten years ago, times haven’t been as bad for Zoe and she seems a lot more relaxed, according to her friends. She has time to build quilts and she’s not so pressed to get them out.
Zoe was making quite a few non quilted bedspreads that had batting in between two clothes. She would cut squares and border them with a 3 inch border and sew them all together, making a bedspread or throw. The three layers were sewn together with only a stitch about 6 inches apart both vertically and horizontally, which according to the Wikipedia encyclopedia is a quilted quilt. The quilts of yesteryear are far less complex than they have become over the years with all the new technology. As I mentioned earlier, large companies can build a quilt from start to finish in less than a day, but that’s not a quilt one would pass on to their kids, who would pass it on to theirs. Those are the quilts that when they get worn out in a couple of years, you just throw it away and go down a buy a new one. Same design, same size, same color, nothing has changed and your best friend wouldn’t know the difference.
Zoe and I design, cut out the squares, triangles or the out of control pieces it takes to build a block for your quilt. We stitch these pieces together, send you a photo of your quilt as it’s being made, then with your approval, we sew the front to the back with batting in-between. We do this all with your ideas and your opinions as we go, then we quilt your quilt with a pattern stitch design that you are okay with. We try to match the stitch design with the theme of the quilt. The ‘Hot Air Balloon quilt’ we have will probably end up with a balloon style stitch pattern or design to accent the quilt. We build many of our quilts with no batting inside to store them easier and to make it easier for someone who wants that particular pattern in a queen size, rather than the California King that it was built for. A few modifications to the top and bottom of the quilt add the batting and quilt the spread together and everyone is happy.
Feel free to visit our website at http://www.quiltsbyladyzoe.com and check out the many patterns we have in stock, the block patterns we have to choose from and the stitch designs we have on hand. Don’t tell yourself that because ‘they don’t have this’ or ‘they don’t have that’, because the fabric store has nearly everything and we try our best to find the pattern your interested in. If it can’t be found, then it probably doesn’t exist, but you can always send us your own patterns and we’ll help you design your quilt the way you want it. The block patterns, fabric patterns and sizes stated in our site are for reference only. If you find a specific block pattern you like, send us a copy and we’ll tell you yea or nay. Remember, this is going to be in your family for a very long time, design a quilt that you know will be passed on and you will have an heirloom that will be cherished.
